Why pay for deep thinking on every simple request? Mistral released improved Large four weights on October twenty-ninth, after an earlier public preview. Builders can now download the model and choose where it runs.

It reads text and images and writes text. Each request can choose low, medium or high reasoning effort. High is the default. Low replaces the old none setting; reasoning cannot be switched off.

That control lets builders match effort to the job: a quick reply and a difficult coding task need different budgets. It does not promise the same answer with less work.

Running it yourself is still a serious infrastructure project. Hugging Face shows a serving recipe across eight server GPUs. That is one deployment example, not a minimum for every version or workload.

The license allows commercial use, but a model-as-a-service business needs a separate agreement, with exceptions including internal use. We have not tested its performance. Watch complete task quality and serving cost when choosing the effort level.
